Stoehr, Locke
Dominate
Wiscasset NEMA
Fields |
Avery Stoehr took down his second feature event win
of the year, beating six time champion Randy Cabral, in
convincing style in the 25 lap NEMA event this past Saturday
at the Wiscasset Speedway. In the Lites, Ryan Locke
dominated the 50 lap feature event, taking down the victory
in convincing style.
In the NEMA feature, Alan
Chambers and Doug Cleveland brought the field to the green
flag. Cleveland got the jump, and would lead the first lap.
Fourth place starter Avery Stoehr in the Bertrand
Motorsports #39 would move around the outside of third place
starter Paul Scally, and then take Cleveland and Chambers on
the outside on the next lap.
Once in the lead, Stoehr
would begin to set a torrid pace, while sixth place starter
Randy Cabral broke free from the pack in second place, with
John Zych coming from fifth to the third spot.
Stoehr would approach heavy lapped traffic at the halfway
point, and he would do a masterful job, as Cabral had closed
the gap to within a carlength. As the laps wound down,
Stoehr poured on the power, running a 13.03 second lap, just
three one thousandths off of John Zych's track record on lap
23 of the 25 lap event. He would go on to take down the
victory over Cabral, Zych, Jim Chambers, Todd Bertrand, Alan
Chambers, Doug Cleveland, Paul Scally, Joey Payne and Mike
Horn.
"The car was great on the top and just a rocket
tonight," said Stoehr. "We've had some ups and downs this
season, but it was nice to pick up a second win for Tim and
the team, they all just did a great job tonight. It feels
great to win here in front of a big crowd, we always love
this place," he concluded.
In the NEMA Lites
feature, Ryan Locke worked his way into the lead in the
early stages of the event. Over the first fifteen laps of
the fifty lap feature, Locke would stretch out his lead to
nearly a straightaway, after passing Ben Mikitarian. The
running order of the field at the halfway point, was Locke,
Mikitarian, Richie Coy, Randy Cabral, and Danny Cugini.
A lap thirty two caution bunched up the field, but when
the green flag flew, it was all Locke at the front. Coy and
Cugini would advance past Mikitarian and the two would
tighten the gap amongst each other, but would have nothing
for Locke at the front of the field. As the laps wound down,
Locke would continue to set a quick pace in the low 14
second range.
Locke would go on to take down his
second win of the season over Richie Coy, Dan Cugini, Ben
Mikitarian, Randy Cabral, Jake Trainor, Kyle Valeri, Tyler
Rivard, Jim Cataldo, and Paul Scally.
NEMA picks back
up its schedule this Saturday with the legenday Sammy
Swindell making a guest appearance at the New London
Waterford Speedbowl. |
