J. Chambers, Carlson Take
Monadnock
NEMA Victories |
The Northeastern Midget Association made the best of
a bad situation and headed up to Larry Cirillo's Monadnock
Speedway this past Saturday night, after learning that the
event at the Waterford Speedbowl was cancelled due to
"unforseen circumstances" at 8PM the previous evening. World
of Outlaws star Sammy Swindell was the highlight of the
evening for the fans, and finished safely inside the top
ten. In NEMA action, Jim Chambers blasted his way to the
front and fended off multi time champions Randy Cabral and
John Zych. In the Lites action, Seth Carlson came from the
fifth spot and took the victory in lapped traffic over Ben
Mikitarian.
In the NEMA feature, Paul Scally and
Doug Cleveland brought the field down to the green flag.
Scally would blast into the lead on the first lap. For the
first seven laps he would pace the field, but further back,
Jim Chambers was moving quickly through the field. Chambers
would take third after the first lap, and move by Scally for
the lead on lap eight.
Chambers would go on to set a
torrid pace, running laps in the 11.7 and 11.8 range during
the feature. A caution with ten laps remaining would bunch
up the field. When the green flag flew, the man on the move
was Randy Cabral, as he moved from fourth by Scally and Zych
into second. Cabral would try to catch Chambers, but
Chambers would pull away, going on to take down the victory.
Cabral was second, followed by John Zych, Paul Scally, Alby
Olvitt, Dan Cugini, Sammy Swindell, Avery Stoehr, Mike Horn
and Doug Cleveland.
"The car was pretty good all day
but the tires didn't size up right after scuffing, so for
the rest of the night we didn't chase the car we just had to
try and get the stagger up. Just a few laps into the feature
i knew we hit it right on and i just had to get out front
quick and hit my marks. I cant thank Monadnock enough for
taking us on to their already very busy night on such short
notice and the people in NEMA for never quitting," said
Chambers.
In the Lites feature, young star Ben
Mikitarian in the New England Truck Solutions #9 would jump
out into the lead in the early laps. He would pace the
field, running laps in the 12.7 range, as further back, Seth
Carlson was working his way through the field, up to 3rd by
lap eight, and Danny Cugini was working his way from the
eighth spot to fourth by lap eleven.
As the laps
wound down, Mikitarian would approach lap traffic, and
Carlson in the Seals It / Carlson Automotive #6 would close
the gap. Carlson would look low with three laps to go, and
would complete the pass on Mikitarian with two laps
remaining. Cugini would move past Randy Cabral with five to
go, and into third. Carlson would take down the win over
Mikitarian, Cugini, Cabral, Jake Trainor, Richie Coy, Avery
Stoehr, John Zych, Kyle Valeri and Jim Cataldo.
"I
really need to thank everyone who has helped us out with
this car," Said Carlson. "Skip from Seals It, My mom and
Dad, Kendall, Lloyd Burnham, Carl, Mikey, Tom and Seymour
Racing. There are alot of people that support my racing
efforts and make sure I have all the stuff needed to be
successful," said Carlson. |
