Horn, Marvuglio Take NEMA Opener
Victories at LEE USA Speedway
Mike Horn and Anthony Marvuglio both ended long Northeastern Midget Association draughts at LEE USA Speedway in the opening event of the season. Horn fended off a hard charging Avery Stoehr at the line in the NEMA feature, and Marvuglio drove away and hid in the Cabral #36 in the Lites portion of the event.

In the NEMA feature, Horn jumped out into the lead quickly in his father's A1, Esslinger powered machine. Behind Horn, Dan Cugini in his Toyota powered Hawk was working his way through the field, and Avery Stoehr in the Bertrand 39 was making his way through the pack from his ninth starting position. A mechanical failure sidelined Paul Scally's #30, as he was running solidly in the top three right before the halfway point.

At the halfway point, it was still all Horn, but as the laps wound down and lapped traffic started to play a factor, Cugini and Stoehr closed in on Horn. With six to go, Stoehr moved under Cugini for second and set his sights on Horn. At the white flag, Horn with a three car length lead navigated around a lapped car and Stoehr looked low coming off of turn four for the checkered flag, but could not make the move stick.

Horn would go on to take down the victory over Stoehr, Cugini, Alby Ovitt, John Zych, Doug Cleveland, Matt O'Brien, Andy Lunt, Pete Pernesiglio, and Scally.

"I'm so happy we won. I'd like to thank the Bertrand's and also our good friend Greg. It was the first time Greg was back since beating cancer, he's been helping my Dad since the 70's. It just goes to show that you can't ever give up, and you can have your best and worst day at the same race track. The last time I was at this track I was in a giant wreck, and today we are in victory lane," said Horn.

In the Lites race, Marvuglio jumped out into an early lead, wasting no time getting to the front of the field. Further behind him, hard charger Ryan Locke was making his way through the field, and quickly engaged in a battle with Matt Merry for the second spot.

As the laps wound down, Marvuglio would continue to pull away, executing picture perfect laps - and Locke would get by Merry for the runner up spot. Merry, having one of his best runs yet in the NEMA Lites, would finish third to Locke, and Marvuglio would go on to take down the win in the Cabral #36. Jake Trainor would finish fourth followed by PJ Stergios, Richie Coy, Jim Cataldo, Randy Cabral, Chase Locke, and Chris Vose.

"We made a gear change after the heat, after noticing we still had the Thompson gears in the car. The restarts were day and night after we got that solved. The car was literally perfect in the feature after a few adjustments. Brandon Igo was definitely key to our win, we threw the kitchen sink at it. I want to thank Glen & Randy Cabral for the opportunity to drive their car, and Dave & Brandon Igo for all of their help," said Marvuglio.
