Paul Scally the NEMA
LITES Victor at
Seekonk's Open Wheel Wednesday |
On Wednesday, August 25th, the NEMA LITES rolled
into the Seekonk Speedway, after being rained out earlier in
the season.
As qualifying had already taken place,
the field practiced and was set for the drop of the green
flag that evening.
When the LITES roared to the
green, Joey Bailey in the Scrivani #21 jumped out into the
lead from the pole position.
Bailey was solidly in
command, while Paul Scally in his family owned #30 was
pursing him in 2nd. On lap 22 Scally looked underneath
Bailey in turn one, and the two made contact. Bailey was
sent spinning but was able to recover.
"I feel like
it was a racing deal. I was faster than Bailey at that
point, and he appeared to be getting loose. I was working on
getting under him into 1, and the #21 got loose and got out
of his throttle. We bumped wheels and he partially spun. I
am glad he was able to get back into the top five. I know
that team is very upset, but it was totally trying hard and
racing, and if I don't race hard I shouldn't be on the
track," said Scally about the incident.
Once in
command, Scally never looked back as he went on to score a
dominating victory. Kyle Valeri charged to a solid runner up
finish, and Richie Coy rounded out the podium. PJ Stergios
was 4th, followed by Bailey, Jake Trainor, Randy Cabral,
Avery Stoehr, Mike Pernesiglio, and Dylan Coutu.
"2021 has been an amazing year as far as our results," said
Scally. "We have won most of the big races and I am truly
humbled by it. I may never have finishes like this again. As
for Seekonk, we have been so fast there so many times but
have had things happen and I feel like the track still owes
us more. Our luck changed and I'll ride the wave. It is my
home track and I love the place - can't wait to get back
there.
"I need to thank my Dad, Rachel who is the
oil that keeps the team's engine running, and my son and
daughter who give us love and support. Sponsors like Frank
Capone, Bob Delhome (Charter Environmental), Earth Movers,
and Dangerous Arms in Death Valley, CA all help us out and
it's a huge deal to the team. We appreciate their support.
Most importantly the fans of NEMA racing - they keep our
sport alive and we love them all." |
