HARD CHARGERS |

NEMA MIDGETS:
JIM CHAMBERS

NEMA
LITES:
CHASE LOCKE #1 |

|
Congratulations to Mike Horn, Jake Trainor
and all the Shane Hammond Memorial Race competitors.
A shout out to the hard chargers, Chase Locke and
Jim Chambers.
I want to begin by saying
thank you all who participated in the SHMR. I hope
you understand how much it means to me to keep not
just Shane Hammond's name involved with NEMA but his
attitude of being a true good sport who offered a
helping hand to all. NEMA was like an extended
family that he loved representing.
Our newest
t-shirt design by WC Designs in NY was a huge hit.
Drivers, owners & officials who did not pick one up
at our SHBF display or those who were missed in the
pits, please email or text me your size. I
appreciate all your support and dedication. Thanks
to all of the t-shirt sponsors who helped me afford
them to share. The sponsored lap money will be
distributed evenly with the track pay out. If you
have not already mailed your check, please send make
it payable and mail it to NEMA.
Thanks to the
Speedbowl and staff for hosting our annual race. A
special thank you to Matt O'Brien and Vivo
Architecture for sponsoring the NEMA fee for the
SHMR, The Trainor family who donated $50.00 to the
3rd and 7th place finisher in the NEMA lites, Bill
Van Slyke for his donation of 2 bicycles for the
kids free raffle and Ellen Pernesiglio for her
beautiful afghans we raffled. Thanks to all, who
made anonymous donations, those who purchased raffle
tickets, shirts, books and decals. The foundation
has struggled since COVID like many non profits but
we hope to be back with lots of energy to succeed in
helping with driver safety and education. We believe
in SAFETY first and foremost. As a reminder, we
accept donations of used items such as racing suits,
shoes, gloves, Hans etc. We try to help any and all
who ask from all divisions; let's face it not many
of us started our racing adventure in a midget. The
foundation is also trying to work with other racing
clubs to recycle trophies.
Did you notice an
OLDER orange and black 37 in the pits and on the
track with NEMA? This was one of Shane's first cars.
I ran it in 2015 with my dad as my crew chief with
the Vintage Midget Racing Club run by Dave Shore and
the New London-Waterford Speedbowl as our home
track. The 37 had not run since then and sat outside
for a few years under a tarp. My nephew, Jack
Glockner stripped it down and put it back together,
so to see the 37 run (a little rough) but run just
the same was a BIG deal for me with many heartfelt
memories. I hope along others to run it again next
season with VMR. NEMA car owner, Jackie Parker was
kind enough to trailer his vintage midget to the
Speedbowl which was on display on the front stretch.
I hope you all had an opportunity to check out the
Parker beauty. Should anyone be interested in
running with VMR (we do about 4-5 shows a year)
please reach out.
In closing, I am blessed to
have all of you by my side celebrating Shane's
legacy, NEMA, racing, fans, family & friends. It's a
big undertaking and it can never be successful
alone. Stay safe during the off season and continue
to support all that makes this club so special.

Kids Bicycle Give-a-way & NEMA
Drivers Meet and Greet |
The Northeastern Midget Association
has teamed with the Shane Hammond Believe
Foundation to conduct a Kids Bicycle Give-a-way
- one girls bike and one boys bike - on Oct.
15th at the Waterford-New London Speedbowl's
"The Finale".
The drawing will be free
to all fans.
The Foundation was created
in loving memory of Shane Hammond who left us
way too soon in 2008.
Along with the give-a-way, a NEMA
drivers Meet and Greet will take place in the
grandstand area. Fans will have an opportunity
to meet their favorite driver and get an
autograph and picture.
