Pernesiglio Earns First NEMA LITES Career Win
& Stoehr Takes NEMA Feature Win |
The NEMA LITES and NEMA Midgets traveled to 'The
Place To Race', Star Speedway for the running of the 59th
Annual Star Classic. For this race, NEMA honored the 55 men
and women who have been inducted into the club's prestigious
Hall of Fame. In a memorable NEMA LITES race, Mike
Pernesiglio, earned his first career NEMA LITES win, adding
to his family history at the same track, where his father,
Pete Pernesiglio earned his first NEMA career win 25 years
prior. While in the NEMA Midgets feature, for the third year
in a row, Avery Stoehr won the Star Classic.
In the
NEMA LITES feature, Chris Vose in the Vosey Motorsports #3
alongside Ethan Dion in the #8 led the field to the green
flag for 35 green to checkered laps. Vose led the field into
turn one, with Dion beside him, but going down the
backstretch, Dion tucked in behind Vose. While coming out of
turn four, Mike Pernesiglio in the #28, was able to drive up
alongside the inside of Dion where the two raced side by
side going into turn one until going down the backstretch,
where Pernesiglio took over the second position. Pernesiglio
now had his eyes locked on Vose to close the car length gap
between the two.
On the 3rd lap, while Vose
continued to lead followed by Pernesiglio, Joey Bailey in
the #2, looked to the inside of Dion going into turn 3,
where the two raced side by side until turn two of the
following lap where Bailey took over third.
On the
following lap, going down the front stretch, Kyle Valeri in
the Valeri Motorsports #17, took the inside line going into
turn one to take fourth over Dion.
Over the next few
laps, as the drivers raced single file, while coming out of
turn four, Pernesiglio looked to the inside of Vose and
drove up alongside him. While going into turn one on lap 8,
Pernesiglio was the new race leader and began to open his
lead. Then when going into turn three, Bailey took the low
line to drive up alongside Vose where the two raced side by
side until coming out of turn four where Bailey took over
second. While going down the front stretch, following the
back bumper of Bailey, Valeri then drove up alongside the
inside of Vose where the two raced side by side until turn
one, where Valeri took over the third. On the same lap,
while down the backstretch and into turn three, Randy Cabral
in the #47, looked to the inside of Vose, and took over
fourth.
Over the next several laps, as the field
spread out amongst themselves, Pernesiglio, created nearly a
four car length lead over Bailey and Valeri. Valeri worked
to the back bumper of Bailey, but Bailey was able to
continue his run out of each turn, to hold onto second.
On lap 25, Pernesiglio, extended his lead to nearly half
a straightaway over Bailey and Valeri right on his back
bumper.
As the laps began to tick down on lap 35,
when the checkered flag was flown, earning his first NEMA
LITES win, Pernesiglio took home the win in the 59th running
of the Star Classic, followed by Bailey, and Valeri to round
out the podium.
In a victory lane interview,
Pernesiglio commented on his win, "Out of all the tracks on
the schedule, I never would've thought Star would be my
first win, but yet here I am standing in victory lane. There
is not a single word in the dictionary to describe this
feeling."
The top ten were strong finishes by: Mike
Pernesiglio #28, Joey Bailey #2, Kyle Valeri #17, Randy
Cabral #47, Dylan Coutu #53, Jake Trainor #29, Chase Locke
#1, Paul Scally #30, Kevin Iannarelli #7, and Brayden Egan
#59.
The next feature to take the track were the
NEMA Midgets, as Doug Cleveland in the #87 alongside Matt
O'Brien in the #16, led the field to the green flag.
Cleveland led the field into turn one while Randy Cabral in
the Bertrand Motorsports #74 took to the outside of O'Brien
going down the backstretch to take over second. While going
into turn three, Avery Stoehr in the Bertrand Motorsports
#39, took over the third position.
While going down
the backstretch on lap 3, Cleveland, Cabral, and Stoehr went
three wide, but going into turn three, Cabral took the lead
as Cleveland and Stoehr followed bumper to bumper.
On the following lap, while coming out of turn two, Stoehr
took second over Cleveland. Stoehr, now had his eyes set on
closing the four length distance between him and Cabral.
While on lap 6, as Cabral continued to lead followed by
Stoehr, Mike Horn in the #93 took the low line going into
three and raced side by side against Cleveland until coming
out of turn four, where Horn raced his way into the top
three.
Over the next several laps as the field
spread out amongst themselves, Cabral and Stoehr created
nearly a straightaway lead from the third place Horn.
As the leaders started to encounter lapped traffic, this
allowed Stoehr to close the car length distance between him
and leader, Cabral, and was now on his back bumper.
Unfortunately, on lap 20, a caution was thrown on the field
for Horn who was able to rejoin the field. As the drivers
realigned in a double file line, Cabral alongside Stoehr led
the field back to the green flag. Going into turn one,
Cabral and Stoehr raced side by side, but coming out two,
Stoehr took over the lead and began to drive away from
Cabral.
As the checkered flag flew for Stoehr, this
marked his 3rd Star Classic win in a row followed by Cabral,
and Horn to round out the podium.
In a post victory
lane interview, Stoehr commented on his win, "The car was
good and I got to Randy once in traffic, but made a mistake
and had to set myself back up again, but then there was a
restart. The car was spot on perfect and I was able to drive
around the top. Randy had a great run going and late race
restarts always lend themselves to either go your way or
not. I'm sure he will be on a tear the rest of the year and
I look forward to going wheel to wheel with him whenever I
get the opportunity."
The top five were strong
finishes by: Avery Stoehr #39, Randy Cabral #74, Mike Horn
#93, Derek Robbie #A1, and Doug Cleveland #87.
The
NEMA LITES will be back in action this coming weekend at
Monadnock Speedway, for the track's final event this season
at the action packed oval. We hope to see you there, if you
are not able to make it, be sure to tune in Flo Racing. Now,
let's go racing! |
